Protective clothing for hand-held chain saw operators

The suit is designed to protect employees of forestry enterprises, wood-processing companies, municipal green services, organizations providing vegetation clearance services along power transmission lines, and other organizations working with chain saws.

DSTU EN ISO 13688:2016, DSTU EN 381-11:2006 cl. 4.2, 4.4, 4.5, 4.7, sec. 6, sec. 8; DSTU EN 381-5:2002 sec. 4, sec. 5, cl. 6.1, 6.2, 6.4, sec. 8.

Construction

The suit consists of a jacket and bib overalls.

The jacket has a straight cut with a stand-up collar. The central closure is a zipper covered by a windproof flap fastened with snap buttons. The front and back yokes are loose along the bottom edge and armholes. A drawcord with adjusters is provided at the hem.

The front panels are equipped with chest pockets: the left one is a patch pocket, the right one is a zippered welt pocket. Lower pockets are fitted with snap-fastened flaps. An internal pocket with hook-and-loop fastening is provided.

The front yoke is loose along the lower edge and armholes. The back features a ventilated yoke along the lower edge and armholes. A waist drawcord allows adjustment using loops and buttons.

The sleeves are single-seam. The left sleeve has a patch pocket with a snap-fastened flap. The sleeve cuffs are finished with knitted rib cuffs. Sleeve width is adjustable using a hook-and-loop strap. Additional ventilation is provided through mesh inserts in the lower parts of the front and back panels.

The bib overalls are fitted with adjustable suspenders with carabiner fasteners. The fly is button-fastened. A side closure on the left side is secured with snap buttons and buttons.

The front part of the bib overalls includes side patch pockets with zippers. The bib features a patch pocket with a snap-fastened flap. The inner side of the bib overalls is equipped with soft protective padding along the entire length of the legs. The back part has a waist drawcord, and a patch tool pocket is located on the right side.

For winter conditions, the suit may be additionally equipped with an insulated fleece lining or thermal insulation.

Advantages

The suit fully complies with the requirements of DSTU EN 381-5:2002 and, depending on the protective pad coverage area, can be manufactured in three design types: A, B, and C.

Designs A and B are intended for use by trained and instructed professional forestry workers performing standard forestry operations.

Design B is similar to Design A but provides an additional 50 mm extension of the protective area on the inner side of the left leg. This extension is justified by the location of the femoral artery in this area, injury to which may result in fatal consequences due to severe blood loss.

Design C is intended for users with limited experience in chain saw operation or for work performed under exceptional conditions, such as working at height or tree climbing.

The suit consists of a jacket and bib overalls or trousers (bib overalls or trousers may also be ordered separately).

Functional Features

The suit features a special ergonomic cut and modern design. It is lightweight and comfortable to wear and is intended for work in conditions of heavy contamination and increased mechanical loads, as forestry workers often move through dense vegetation, perform tool maintenance, or handle timber.

Numerous concealed ventilation openings, large mesh inserts in the lining (including pockets), additional ventilation zones under the arms, and a breathable trouser lining ensure optimal airflow even when the suit is fully fastened. Body moisture is efficiently released, preventing heat buildup.

A large area of high-visibility coloring on the jacket and trousers ensures enhanced visibility of the operator in fog, rain, snow, low-light conditions, and areas with limited visibility caused by terrain features.
